AIR_POLLUTION
Air quality crowdsourced data
How to organize a data collection about air quality, involving hundreds of citizens, associations, schools, …?
The challenge for protecting the environment and improving the quality of the air we breathe will be crucial for the next years. It is a battle that concerns the health and quality of life of millions of European citizens and, for this reason, mayors and administrators have to accept this challenge. With the “Air Break” project, Ferrara intends to embark on an ambitious task alongside its citizens. Because there is no result that can be achieved without participation, enthusiasm and cooperation between administrators and citizens involved.

– Analisi di fattibilità e business plan.

MOBILITY_&_TRANSPORT
Commuters North area
How to reduce traffic and improve the mobility of commuters who travel to and from the north area of Ferrara every day for work?
The northern area of Ferrara is characterized by high systematic daily flows with traffic congestion. We would like to find ideas to better integrate existing solutions, actively involving local companies and, with them, identifying more sustainable ways to move to and from that area.

MOBILITY_&_TRANSPORT
Mixed-mode commuting: bike+bus+train
How to really improve a mixed-mode commuting system in Ferrara, based on bike/e-bike, trains, buses, shuttles, vassels, …?
Before COVID19 pandemy, 30 thousand people (workers and students) moved from Ferrara province to other areas (Bologna, Padova, Modena) and viceversa 12 thousand people moved from outside.
We need to rethink a set of services and facilities for commuters, from sharing services (bikes, e-bikes, scooters, …) to shuttles.
We need to improve and make bike parking spaces more safe and attractive, with better and more efficient information for commuters.

Sustainable tourism & wayfinding
New ideas of sustainable mobility to discover the province of Ferrara between sea, art and nature
One of the challenges for the near future is undoubtedly the extension of sustainable mobility issues to a number of areas, with tourism playing a central role among them. The objective of this challenge will be to create a proposal to encourage travel by bus, waterway, bike-sharing, and pedestrian routes in the province, including through tourist wayfinding (e.g. from railway stations to the nearest major tourist hubs), i.e. the orientation and perception of spaces. The integration between the public transport system, based on the principles of intermodality, and tourist wayfinding contribute to increase the quality of liveability and the use of public spaces. The challenge is therefore to promote sustainable tourist mobility, also through the use of tools such as totems, signage with key indications to promote sustainable mobility in the province of Ferrara, which also includes the use of technology and QR codes to provide more detailed and complete information to tourists. This will reconnect and patch up interrupted routes from the capital city to the delta and the coast.

BUILDINGS_&_RETROFIT
Sustainability of tourist structures
How to make hotel consumption more sustainable, both in terms of goods and services.
The world of tourism, and in particular the hospitality sector, is constantly and rapidly changing. Tourists, both for leisure and business, are increasingly looking for solutions that have a certain sensitivity towards the environment and sustainability.
The hospitality sector, like hotels and other similar facilities, are still very “energy-intensive”: they consume a lot, too much energy. Daily linen change, courtesy set, disposable products, set of towels, minibar with products often in plastic containers. We need to rethink a more sustainable and greener concept, with new ideas that can help this sector to find the sustainable way to satisfy the new desires of their current and future Guests.
